- January 6: Jim Wallis is announced as Keynote for Congress 2009
Title: "The Opportunity of Crisis"We stand at a unique historical crossroad — a moment pregnant with expectation for progress, and burdened with the reality of hardship. In the context of our faith we call this “hope.” Jim Wallis defines hope as, “believing in spite of the evidence and watching the evidence change.” It is hope, he says, grounded in faith that can stir our nation into the action needed to produce lasting change.
Wallis sees a “new faith coalition” emerging not bound by the usual denominational, cultural, racial, or even political distinctions, but rather, united in its pursuit of the common good and justice for the “least of these.” Together, these believers can open up a new “two-way street” of dialogue in the public square. Here, we can offer prayerful support of our elected officials as they face their responsibilities, especially when their agenda is consistent with our own. At the same time the faith community must exercise it’s prophetic responsibility to challenge our leaders when necessary, particularly in defense of the poor and vulnerable. At the present crossroad we can choose this street of hope and travel this road to progress. In the Hotel Listings in the Registration Guidebook, the number for the Hilton Garden Inn (11777 Harbor Blvd, Garden Grove 92840) is listed incorrectly. The CORRECT number is (714) 703-9100.
- Our Congress Volunteer meeting will be held on February 10, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Vincent Church, 621 W. Adams Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90007.
- The Registration Guidebook incorrectly lists conflicting information about the locations for Sunday lunchtime entertainment. The listing should be:
11:45 am - 12:30 pm
Music (Arena) - Meredith Augustin & John Angotti
Music (Hall B) - Donna Peña, Santiago Fernández & Pedro Rubalcava
There will be an AA meeting held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday during lunchtime at the San Diego room at the Marriott
- The correct title for Abbot Christopher Jamison's Friday workshops should be
2-10: Finding Sanctuary: Monastic Steps for Everyday Life
- An incorrect photo was published in the Registration Guidebook for Joe Paprocki (correct photo here).
- The Anaheim Resort Transit (ART), the area shuttle service from hotels to the Disney Theme Parks and the Anaheim Convention Center, announced updated rates on October 9, 2008: one-day unlimited use adult passes are $4, two-day $8, three-day $10. Children one-day passes are $1, two-day $2. (These update the rates posted in our Registration Guidebook.)
- Session 6-13 – "Don't Sell Your Soul: Being Church in a Consumer Culture" by Edward Hahnenberg – will be recorded. The recording symbol was missed on the description page of the Registration Guidebook.
Announced incorrectly in our November 2008 Emailing, the Outdoor Entertainment with the Vietnamese Youth and Brother Phong is on Saturday not Friday.
- Owen Danaher, friend and committed volunteer to Congress for so many years, has passed away. His Memorial Mass was Tuesday, October 14 at 10 a.m. The Memorial Mass was celebrated at Holy Name of Mary Parish in San Dimas.
"I worked with Owen for over 35 years at Congress. In addition, he was the treasurer of the Pacific Railroad Society (PRS), an organization to which I have belonged for over 35 years. The PRS is a historical and operating railroad organization. We run a museum in the former Santa Fe depot in San Dimas, and own and operate eight private passenger railroad cars, which we house in the City of Commerce. Owen will be sorely missed by both organizations."
-- John Tellez (October 7, 2008)

Congress strives to offer experiences that stimulate new ideas and renew excitement about ministry, reinvigorate faith and help restore a spirit of hope. This happens through ritual, prayer, music, dance and Word – not only from workshops, but through the various daily liturgies we offer. We invite you to experience a liturgy from among the many cultures represented.
