Youth Day Speaker Feature: Fr. Rob Galea
Both Tracks at Youth Day get to see the Youth Day Arena speaker and one additional workshop, including this one and 11 others whose sessions are held in the Convention Center meeting rooms.

Singer/songwriter Fr. Rob Galea, a Catholic priest, is an assistant parish priest and also a Chaplain at Notre Dame College, both in Shepparton, Victoria, Australia. In addition to his series of recordings and CD releases, Fr. Galea has written a number of songs for various campaigns and international conferences. He was selected to sing the official 2008 World Youth Day song, “Receive the Power,” and performed in some key events before the 500,000 pilgrims in Sydney. He is co-founder of Stronger, a youth program that is quickly becoming one of Victoria state’s largest Catholic youth movements.

Do It Scared!
For too long we have let fear stop us from reaching our God-promised potential. Fr. Rob Galea will share stories of his journey from victim to victor. You will learn ways to overcome and face your fears to become all you are called to be in Christ.

Congress Liturgy Feature: Australian Culture
Our Congress liturgies and prayer services have been announced. We will be featuring some of our 17 Eucharistic Liturgies and 4 Prayer Services from the Congress weekend here in our Emailings.

Friday, March 13, 2015, 5:15 pm
Rev. Richard Leonard, SJ, presider
One of our Friday evening liturgies will feature the Australian Culture. Aboriginal Australians and Torres Strait Islander peoples have a spirituality and tradition spanning some 60,000 years. Over recent decades, the Australian Church has incorporated elements of this spirituality in prayer and worship. Experience the power of liturgical inculturation.

The liturgy will have Fr. Richard Leonard as our celebrant. Jesuit priest Fr. Richard Leonard is Director of the Catholic Office for Film and Broadcasting, based in Melbourne, Australia.
(The Period 2 workshop " Indigenous Liturgical Inculturation: The Australian Experience" is especially recommended for those attending the Australian Culture Liturgy.)

In Memoriam: Sr. Anne Smollin
Sister Anne Bryan Smollin died unexpectedly Thursday morning, September 25, 2014, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, N.Y. Many know Anne Bryan as an animated speaker at the Los Angeles Religious Education Congress. She was scheduled to speak at our upcoming Congress 2015. She has gifted, graced and made us laugh for many years. She will certainly be missed by all of us. May our gracious God welcome Anne and hold her sisters and family in a close embrace.
Sr. Smollin, a Sister of St. Joseph, was a therapist, group facilitator, lecturer and consultant, and Executive Director of Counseling for Laity based in Albany, N.Y. The former elementary schoolteacher and guidance counselor was on the adjunct faculty at several colleges. She lectured internationally and nationally, speaking to religious communities, conventions and businesses. She had authored five books, including her most recent, “Making Each Moment Count.”

Speaker Feature: Alice Camille
Over the three days, Congress 2015 will offer over 300 workshops presented by more than 200 speakers. Topics range from personal growth to music to spiritual topics – in English, Spanish and Vietnamese. Each Emailing we spotlight one of those speakers:

Alice Camille, MDiv, is a religious educator, retreat leader, Scripture columnist and contributor to “Give Us This Day,” the Catholic, daily prayer guide by Liturgical Press. Her experiences span parish catechist, campus minister, women’s shelter supervisor, and ecumenical worship leader at the Grand Canyon’s North Rim in Arizona. Author of several books, Camille now leads parish missions, retreats and catechetical workshops throughout the United States.

A Prophet for All Seasons: The Biography of Isaiah
Session 3, Friday, March 13: 3:00 - 4:30 pm
As prophets go, Isaiah is a phenomenon. His book has been called the fifth Gospel, and we hear it proclaimed in the Sunday assembly more often than anything else in the Old Testament. The premiere prophet of Advent – “For unto us a child is born!” – is also the final prophet of Holy Week – “He was pierced for our offenses, and by his wounds we are healed.” Isaiah’s words are familiar, so how come many of us don’t know anything about this guy? Who is this long-dead prophet of Israel who speaks so intimately to Christian hearts?

Just Say No: Naysayers in the Bible’s Wisdom Books
Session 8, Sunday, March 15: 1:00 - 2:30 pm
Is it possible to say a small “no” in order to arrive at a big “Yes”? Is there room in the life of faith for doubt and disagreement? The Bible contains many examples of how “no” can become the ultimate “yes” in the life of the faithful. Disagreeable folks are welcome to participate!
