Hear the Congress 2013 Theme Song

The 2013 Los Angeles Religious Education Congress is only two weeks away! And we're celebrating with a preview of the Congress Theme Song. In this extra Congress Emaling we have information about the theme song, ticket mailing, registering, and much more. Be sure to join us for our event on site ... or online at archive.recongress.org/LIVE!

And we had to share this review on Yelp.com that just came to our attention:

Some people go to Tibet, Bali, or India for spiritual rejuvenation or enlightenment. Others take to the deserts in the Americas or the mountains in the Andes. I head to Orange County, California. For nearly a decade, I have joined thousands of other Catholics for a weekend of workshops, liturgies (I love hearing my favorite gospel singer!), and camaraderie. I call it visiting the Catholic planet. Don't let the name fool you; you don't have to be a Catholic school teacher or catechist to take part or even a staunch Catholic. In fact, LA Congress has conservative Catholic protesters every year taking issue with the multicultural liturgies and/or the messages of inclusiveness.

I consider this one of the highlights of every year and I've made it a family tradition bringing along my mother and now my daughter.

Note: We have stopped mailing tickets to foreign (out-of-U.S.) addresses. Today is the last day you can MAIL IN your registration. If you're not ready, you have until February 14 to register online. After that you can still register on site in Anaheim.

Pass along this emailing or our link — archive.recongress.org — to share with friends and encourage them to sign up for our Congress Emailing for the latest information and updates. If you do not care to receive future updates, you can find removal information at the bottom of this message.

Born in Ireland, she has extensive workshop, retreat and presentation experience both locally and nationally, and is currently working on a doctorate. She is co-editor of “Come Follow Me” (with Michael O’Rourke) and “A Shepherd Tends His Flock” (with John Girotti).

"Adult Faith Formation: From Information to Transformation, From Program to Process"
Saturday, February 23, 2013
3:00 - 4:30 pm - Session 6-05
What does it mean to be an “adult centered” community of faith? What does it take to move adults from complacency to vibrancy, and intentionally form disciples who are “on fire” for Christ? This workshop explores contemporary issues and creative strategies to reach out to our adults who come from diverse cultural, ethnic, educational, vocational, social, political and spiritual realities. Participants will gain a greater understanding of the changing landscape of religious diversity among adults and examine national and global trends that are influencing adult faith formation and identify creative strategies in ministering effectively and intentionally.

"Adult Faith Formation for the 21st Century: From Best to Next Practices"
Sunday, February 24, 2013
10:00 - 11:30 am - Session 7-08
A vibrant, future-focused ministry often involves moving from using “best practices” to “next practices.” Best practices are a snapshot of what we know has worked well in the past, while next practices are an attempt to take that prior experience and transform it rather than to merely replicate it. Best practices allow your ministry to focus on what you are currently doing a little better, while next practices increase your ministry’s capability to do things that it could never have done before. Practical strategies including strategic planning, utilizing classic and contemporary marketing strategies and social networking will all be discussed in this Year of Faith.
