The year 2001 will mark the 35th time that the
Archdiocese of Los Angels has sponsored the Religious
Education Congress, an event that has become synonymous
with the promulgation of spiritual formation in Southern
California – and, in deed, the United Sates.
The largest event if its kind, “Congress” draws
participants from not only around the country, but
around the world. as well. They include bishops and
religious, men and women lay catechists, teens and adult
leaders, from many parishes and institutes. They come to
be nourished spiritually, to grow in knowledge, and to
be energized and renews by their interaction with
thousands of others – and, finally, to be sent forth to
love and sever the Lord and one another.
That spirit is found in the 2001 Congress theme,
“Clothed in Love, Summoned Beyond.” In this week, issue,
The Tidings devotes eight pages to the Feb. 15-18
Religious Education Congress at the Anaheim Convention
Center, exploring its past and offering a preview of
what to expect next week.
