Reflection on the adult day logo

Artist Valerie MacRae reflects on the RECongress 2019 logo:

"The logo design took shape with the idea that we are all vessels unique in our diverse design, our color, our texture, and our varying capacity to receive and hold the Living Water. The vibrant colored jars stand casting shadows as if in the bright light of high noon. On one side of the jars are strips of metal rusted with perhaps the injustice of the past. In contrast, on the horizon the image of a spring of water welling up ... the hope of quenching our thirst for a future of peace and justice for all. We are challenged, as vessels of Living Water, to engage ourselves in bringing that future to fruition."

Ron Griffen would write the theme song, “He Calls Us Each By Name,” for Congress 1979.

Craig Kingsbury would collaborate with Stella García and Rudy on the song “Brille Tu Luz/Shine, Light of Christ” sung at Saturday Moring Praise at Congress 2013.

Ken Canedo’s songs have been used at a number Congress liturgies through the years. In fact, he most recently lead the music at Saturday Morning Praise for Congress 2017.

A Look Back ... at 1969

The 1969 “Southern California Confraternity Congress” was held at the International Hotel, near Los Angeles International Airport. It was obvious that the event had outgrown the facility – hotel rooms were used for workshop sessions; beds and TV sets were removed and chairs brought in. (Note the lamp in the corner and mirror on the wall behind the portable chalkboard.) The chalkboard questions: “What motivated you to join CCD? What keeps you working in CCD? What discourages you most about CCD?”
