WHAT IS CONGRESS?
The Religious Education Congress, sponsored by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles Office of Religious Education, is the nation's largest annual gathering of Roman Catholics! Our last RECongress, held in March 2010, brought together nearly 40,000 people during the four-day weekend! We had registrants from across the country and as far away as Ireland and Australia.

CONGRESS THEME

 "Hold Firm ... Trust!" /  "Mantente Firme ... ¡Confía!"
Our Congress theme, “Hold Firm … Trust!” draws us into the outrageous love of a God who steadfastly accompanies us on the journey, steadies us in times of challenge, and leads us to refreshment and renewal." ...

You can find the complete reflection on the RECongress 2011 theme by Sr. Edith Prendergast, Director of the Office of Religious Education, on our web site — along with reflections from prior years.

Youth Day

YOUTH DAY
Thursday, March 17, 2011
Sharin' the day with St. Patrick, the Congress weekend officially gets underway with Youth Day, designed specifically for those in the 9th-12th grades. High school students from many different backgrounds from throughout the Los Angeles Archdiocese — from across the state and beyond — come together to participate in morning and afternoon workshops, share in liturgy, and end the day with a Youth Rally. Registration for Youth Day is a separate from Congress registration and has its own fees. Youth Day registration is $20 per person ($25 after February 4, 2011). Watch for the Youth Day theme announcement and registration information online.

HOTELS
Most of our Congress delegates stay in the surrounding area hotels. For  Congress 2011 we will again contract with local hotels that will offer special rates for attendees. We are now beginning to update our Hotels page. Check back often; we suggest making hotel reservations as soon as possible. When making reservations, be sure to ask for the Religious Education Congress rate. You can find updated information about contracted hotels online.

CONGRESS SPEAKERS
Congress once again offers a wide variety of speakers (185 of them this year) presenting sessions from personal growth to music to dealing with your child. There are 281 workshops available in English, Spanish and Vietnamese. You can find our updated listing of speakers for RECongress 2011 online.

CONGRESS 2010 CELL PROGRAM

We asked attendees at Congress 2010 to bring their old cell phones — working or not — with them to Congress. Partnering with GET GREEN TO GET GREEN, an organization that recycles cell phones, the phones generated $1,800, which has been donated to the Haiti relief efforts through Catholic Relief Services.

"Together we both helped save the planet and helped the victims of the earthquake in Haiti”.
-- Jim DeHarpporte, Regional Director, Catholic Relief Services West

We have plans again to collect cell phones again this year.
